Just North of San Diego Is Escondido, Ca

Escondido,Ca

Escondido was originally settled by Native American tribes. Spain controlled the land from the late 1700s to the early 1800s, and established many missions in California to convert the indigenous people. When Mexico gained its independence from Spain, the local land was divided into large "ranchos". The land that would become Escondido was Rancho Rincon del Diablo, a land grant that was given to Juan Bautista Alvarado in 1843 by the Mexican governor.

In 1846, war broke out between the United States and Mexico, and a key battle was fought in the area just south of Escondido. Known as the Battle of San Pasqual, it pitted Mexican Andrés Pico (the brother of then California governor Pío Pico) against Americans Kearny, Gillespie, and Kit Carson. A large park in Escondido is named for Carson.

The city was home to a large Spanish-speaking population in the first census back in 1850, but after the US won the war, non-Hispanic settlers came to Southern California in increasing numbers. The decade of the 1880s is known as the "Southern California Land Boom" because so many people were moving to the state. In 1886 a group of investors called the Escondido Land & Town Company purchased the 12,814-acre (52 km2) area. Two years later in 1888 Escondido was incorporated as a city - the vote was 64 in favor of city hood with 12 votes against. Railroads like the Santa Fe and Southern Pacific were laid in the 1880s, and the opening of U.S. Route 395 in 1930 boosted economic growth in Escondido.

Where to go in Hemet, Ca.

Hemet, Ca

Hemet is a city in Riverside County, located in the San Jacinto Valleyand it spans 25.6 square miles. In 2005, the city's population was 66,455 according to the California Department of Finance. Hemet was founded in 1887, predating the formation of Riverside County, and was incorporated on January 20, 1910.[1]The formation of Lake Hemet helped the city prosper, and allowed further agricultural growth in the area, as well as population growth. The city is probably best known for being the home of "Ramona", California's official and one of the longest running outdoor plays, having been started in 1923.

The City of Hemet has two museums, as well as an outdoor amphitheater. The Hemet Museum is located at the intersection of State street and Florida Avenue, in downtown Hemet. It is a museum of local history, and features photographs of old Hemet, historic photographs from the Ramona Pageant, as well as native american atrifacts and agriculture displays. Hemet is also home of the Western Center for Archaeology & Paleontology, located in the southern part of the city at the intersection of Domenigoni Parkway and Searl Parkway. It futures exhibits of Ice Age mammals, namely including 'Max' , the largest Mastodon found in the western United States, as well as 'Xena' , a Colombian mammoth. Along with the two museums, Hemet also has an outdoor amphitheater, the Ramona Bowl a natural amphitheater located in the southern hills of the city. It is known for producing the play, "Ramona". Recently, Riverside County has expressed an interest in purchasing the theater. If purchased, it could be renovated and be used for small to medium concerts, as well as more plays.

New Moreno Valley, Ca? No Problem.

Moreno Valley is a city located in Riverside County, California. As of January 1, 2008, the population of Moreno Valley was 180,466.[1] A relatively young city, its rapid growth in the 1980s and the 2000s propelled it to its status as second-largest city in Riverside County by population, and one of the Inland Empire's population centers. Neighboring Riverside, California is the county seat and largest city in the county; the two cities are closely tied, sharing March Air Reserve Base with the city of Perris and is north of Lake Perris.

Moreno Valley was originally inhabited by Native Americans of the Shoshone tribe. They were hunter-gatherers. The first Europeans to see the area were Spanish scouts sent from Mexico to explore the area. They blazed a number of trails, including the Anza Trail, which cuts through the Edgemont area of present-day Moreno Valley. Little attention, however, was paid to the relatively dry Moreno Valley area.

A Little Town like Murrieta, Ca

Murrieta is a city in southwestern Riverside County, California, United States. The population was 44,282 at the 2000 census. Population was estimated to be 100,173 in 2008, [1] making it one of the fastest growing cities in the state. Largely residential in character, Murrieta is considered a bedroom community, with large numbers of its residents commuting to jobs in San Diego and Orange counties, and the more industrialized neighboring city of Temecula to the south.

Murrieta is bordered by Temecula to the South and the newly incorporated cities of Menifee and Wildomar to the North.

For most of its history, Murrieta was not heavily populated. Its gently rolling hills dotted with native trees such as the now-threatened Engelmann Oak provided the perfect setting for a Spaniard by the name of Juan Murrieta to bring his flocks of over 100,000 sheep to the valley in 1873.

It didn't take long for others to discover the natural beauty of the valley, especially with a train depot built in 1882 that connected Murrieta to Southern California Railroad's transcontinental route. By 1890, a full 800 people called Murrieta home.

It is rumored that Don Juan Murrieta used the natural hot springs to relax and bathe his sheep, and eventually the hot springs became a focal point for the little town. Murrieta residents began to capitalize on the unique treasure by developing it into the Murrieta Hot Springs Resort, which began to attract visitors from all over the country. Today much of the site (about 50 acres) is home to a Bible college and conference center owned by Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa, which has invested millions of dollars into restoring and rebuilding the old resort rooms over the last decade.
